“The word for ‘teacher’ (lamad) in Hebrew is the intensive form of the word for ‘student.’ Education is a lifelong process that is not limited to the classroom, and each student brings a lifetime of credentials with them to class. My job is to provide a resource-filled, collaborative environment in which each student feels inspired to learn, to grow, and to reach out to others.”
Ann Graham Brock joined the Iliff Faculty June 2007. Her specialties are New Testament and early Christian traditions, noncanonical literature, and gender issues in religion. Her latest monograph is entitled: Mary Magdalene, the First Apostle: The Struggle for Authority. She has also co-edited five other books, and had numerous encyclopedia and journal articles published in German, French, and English.
She has traveled extensively throughout Greece, Turkey, Egypt, and Israel, visiting religious and archaeological sites and was a member of the Swiss-American Sinai Expedition in 2000 to examine manuscripts at St. Catherine’s Monastery. Ann is the Chair of the Christian Apocrypha section of the Society of Biblical Literature. She has taught New Testament and World Religion courses at the University of Colorado at Boulder, Iliff School of Theology, and Harvard University where she received an Excellence in Teaching Award.
Ann has appeared on numerous documentaries to include The Twelve Apostles on the History Channel, The Real Da Vinci Code on the Discovery Channel, and several BBC documentaries about Mary Magdalene and apocryphal literature.
