Katherine Turpin joined Iliff's faculty in June 2002. Prior to coming to Iliff, Dr. Turpin served as adjunct instructor at Candler School of Theology and had been a member of the faculty of the Youth Theological Initiative in Atlanta, Georgia. A committed layperson in the United Methodist Church, Dr. Turpin also served four years as Director of Christian Education at Trinity United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia.
An interest in how persons become the living bearers of faith traditions, how they negotiate challenges to Christian vocation presented by consumer culture, and the politics of knowing in diverse communities informs Katherine Turpin’s work in the practice of religion education. Her areas of research and teaching include the development of vocational imagination in adolescents and young adults, the practice of religious education in intergenerational contexts, and teaching religion in higher education.
