Iliff on the Road: REAP National Conference on the Spirituals, Denver
June 13 - June 15, 2013
Description: Co-sponsored by The Spirituals Project and the University of Denver, The R E A P National Conference on the Spirituals will be held June 13-15 on the University of Denver campus. REAP stands for the four pillars of Research Education, Activism and Performance, which are central to the mission and guiding vision of The Spirituals Project. The conference offers presentations and interactive workshops by professionals and lay persons with interests in diverse areas including music, education, health and healing, literature, history, religion, culture, and social justice. All who wish to learn more about African American spirituals and enjoy a variety of educational presentations and inspirational creative performances are invited to join us for this exciting conference.
Keynote Speakers include:
Nikki Giovanni – Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University – will speak on “Every Time I Feel the Spirit.”
Giovanni is a renowned poet, writer, activist, and educator, widely known for her outspoken poetry, essays and lectures.
Dr. Vincent Harding – Veterans of Hope Project – will speak on “Singing for Freedom: Taking the Spirituals into the Movement for Democracy.” Harding is a civil rights leader, teacher, scholar, engaged citizen, and seeker, especially noted for decades of tireless social justice activism. Vincent Harding, Professor Emeritus of Religion and Social Transformation, is the co-founder of The Veterans of Hope Project, located on the Iliff campus.
The Conference will be held on the campus of the University of Denver. Out-of-town guests will be housed in Nelson Hall, one of the newest, air-conditioned residence halls on the campus. Davis Auditorium and classrooms located in Sturm Hall, along with spaces in The Women’s College will be utilized for plenary sessions, breakout sessions, and performances.

Iliff on the Road: United Methodist Rocky Mtn. Conference Annual Conference

Description: Iliff will be represented by admissions staff at the United Methodist Rocky Mountain Annual Conference. Iliff will also host an alumni luncheon on June 14 at the conference hotel.
The 2013 Annual Conference will be held at the Denver Marriott Tech Center June 13-16, 2013. It is going to be a time to worship, learn, do business and connect with friends and colleagues. The theme of the Annual Conference is “Cultivating the Tree of Life.” Bishop Elaine J.W. Stanvosky will share her vision of cultivating abundant life for all God’s people.
Brian McLaren will be the keynote speaker at the annual conference, speaking on Saturday, June 15, 9:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-3:30 p.m. He will relate his presentation to the Conference theme, “Cultivating The Tree of Life.”
