Symposium: "The Welcome Table: Food, Culture and Community Building" (Day Three)

Description: Enjoy “The Welcome Table,” a symposium/celebration of the role of food, culture, and ritual in creating community and sustaining the social justice movement – sponsored by The Veterans of Hope Project.

Artists, activists, advocates, scholars, storytellers, and culinary specialists from the United States, Brazil, and Mexico will share their stories, perspectives, and food from the traditions of their cultures and movements. Special focus on the role of food and hospitality in: African American religion and the Southern Freedom Movement; Catholicism and Indigenous Traditions in the Chicano/Chicana Rights Movement; Native American Traditional religion in the environmental justice and Indigenous Rights Movement; and Candomble and the Afro-Brazilian Human Rights Movement.

Date: July 18-20

Time: Sunday, July 20 – 11 am – 6 pm – Workshops & Activities

Location: The Iliff School of Theology, 2201 S. University Blvd., Denver
