Worship Service: With Guest Preachers Rev. Beth Stroud, Chris Glaser, & Sue Laurie
May 14, 2008 | 11:10 AM
Description: Worship service hosted by Iliff’s FLAME chapter led by Rev. Beth Stroud, author Chris Glaser, and activist Sue Laurie.
Rev. Stroud served as an ordained United Methodist pastor for six years before losing her clergy credentials in a 2004 church trial. In the trial, Stroud was found guilty of “practices declared by the United Methodist Church to be incompatible with Christian teaching” because she acknowledged living in a committed relationship with another woman. Today, Beth serves the First United Methodist Church of Germantown as a part-time pastoral assistant.
Glaser is a gay Christian activist and author. After graduating from Yale Divinity School in 1977, he served as director of Lazarus Project, a ministry of reconciliation between the church and the lesbian and gay community in Los Angeles, funded by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Since then he has published nine best-selling books, contributed to many others and his writings have appeared in many publications.
Laurie is responsible for organizing, networking and empowering folks within the Reconciling movement. This is done at local, city, Annual Conference, Jurisdictional and General Conference levels.
