Bio
Eunjoo Mary Kim is professor of homiletics and director of the Doctor of Ministry Program at the Iliff School of Theology, Denver. She joined Iliff in the spring quarter of 1999 and has taught preaching and worship courses since then.
The core courses she teaches include Introduction to Christian Worship, Preaching in Christian Communities, Spiritual Preaching, and Preaching and Social Ethics. Her scholarly concerns are with the development of the theology and method of preaching and worship, taking into consideration the cultural diversity of congregations. Her research areas include intercultural hermeneutics, gender-related issues, multicultural worship, and global perspectives for preaching and worship. In 2009-2010, Kim was a recipient of the Wabash Small Project Grants for research on teaching worship from global perspectives. She has participated in the 2010-2012 Presbyterian Women (PCUSA) Racial Ethnic Dialogue.
Kim has published three monographs: Preaching the Presence of God: A Homiletic from the Asian American Perspective (Valley Forge: Judson Press, 1999), Women Preaching: Theology and Practice through the Ages (Cleveland: Pilgrim Press, 2004), and Preaching in an Age of Globalizatio_n (Louisville: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010). The last volume is regarded as the first book in the field of homiletics that deals with issues emerging from the situation of globalization. Kim has served as a member of the editorial board of the journal, _Homiletic, and has written numerous articles and essays in major homiletical journals and in edited volumes in the fields of theology, biblical studies, and homiletics.
An ordained Presbyterian minister (PCUSA), Kim served pastorates including the New Garden Korean American Church, Ridgewood, NJ, and has preached extensively in both the U.S. and Asia. She is a member of the Committee on Preparation for Ministry of the Denver Presbytery and is an executive member of the Colorado AAUP.
