DE LA TORRE RECEIVES FULBRIGHT SPECIALISTS SCHOLARSHIP

(DENVER) – Miguel De La Torre, professor of social ethics, The Iliff School of Theology, is a recipient of a Fulbright Specialist Scholarship by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB), the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Department of State (ECA), and the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES).

De La Torre’s scholarship is for a five year term in the discipline of religion. As with all roster candidates, he was reviewed by peers in the same discipline, and by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

“Iliff congratulates Miguel De La Torre in receiving this Fulbright Specialist Scholarship,” said David Trickett, president. “As Iliff continues to grow as a globally respected graduate theological school, the scholarship places one of the Iliff faculty among the nation’s best to be supported in an international program. It is an honor for Professor De La Torre, as well as for the Iliff School of Theology.”

The Fulbright Specialist Program promotes linkages between U.S. academics and professionals and their counterparts at overseas universities or institutions with education focused programming. The program is designed to award grants to qualified U.S. faculty and professionals, in select disciplines, to engage in short-term collaborative two- to six- week projects at higher education institutions in more than 100 countries worldwide. International travel costs and an honorarium are funded by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Participating host universities cover grantee in-country expenses or provide in-kind services.

Project activities focus on the strengthening and development needs of higher education institutions and do not fund personal research. Eligible activities include teacher training, short-term lecturing, conducting seminars, special conferences or workshops, as well as collaborating on curriculum planning, institutional and/or faculty development.
