Catherine Kelsey was named the Gerald L. Schlessman Chair in Methodist Studies in 2013. She continues as Dean of the Chapel & Spiritual Formation and Visiting Assistant Professor in Theology where she provides pastoral presence for students, fosters spiritual community within and beyond Iliff, and supports deeper discernment of vocations in ministry, the academy, and communities. Kelsey is formerly the John Wesley Iliff Senior Adjunct Lecturer in Theology. She is an elder in the United Methodist Church.
Kelsey’s publications include Thinking About Christ with Schleiermacher, Schleiermacher’s Preaching, Dogmatics, and Biblical Criticism: Interpretation of the Gospel of John, case studies for the teaching of theology, and articles on prayer practices, worship leadership, and theology. She is an experienced retreat leader and spiritual companion and has served as a senior pastor of both urban and rural congregations, two interim pastorates, and as a college chaplain prior to joining Iliff School of Theology in 2004.
