FEASTING ON THE WORD PROVIDES PREACHERS ARRAY OF RESOURCES
Contributor: Westminster John Knox Press
DENVER – The Sunday sermon – a staple in every preacher’s ministry – has an array of resources on the way. Feasting on the Word, a new 12-volume series edited by David Bartlett and Barbara Brown Taylor, will include a vast collection of sermon resources authored by college and seminary teachers, preachers, columnists, and scholarly writers from a wide variety of disciplines and religious traditions, including the Iliff School of Theology’s Eunjoo Kim, associate professor of homiletics, and Richard Ward, associate professor of preaching and performance studies.
“This collection of sermon preparation tools begins with four biblical texts assigned by the Revised Common Lectionary, and then offers preachers 16 different approaches to the proclamation of God’s Word on any given occasion. Each lectionary year will consist of four volumes, one for the Advent and Christmas season, one for Lent and Easter, and one for each half of Ordinary Time,” said Ward, a writer and editor for the series. “While the 12 volumes of the series follow the pattern of the Revised Common Lectionary, each volume will contain an index of biblical passages so that non-lectionary preachers may make use of its contents.”
Subscriptions to the 12-volume series Feasting on the Word, which will be produced over the next four years, can be purchased at a discount by calling 800-672-1789 or ordering online. A trailer for the new book also provides information.
