“HEROES AND SHEROES: THE STORY OF THE LITTLE ROCK NINE” EXHIBIT HIGHLIGHTS HOW TEENAGERS CHANGED AMERICA AT ILIFF IN JANUARY & WELLS FARGO IN FEBRUARY

Denver – Can teenagers change the world? They can, have, and will continue to do so. A unique, free exhibit sponsored by The Iliff School of Theology, “Heroes and Sheroes: The Story of the Little Rock Nine,” honors the courage of nine high schoolers who helped to end segregation in America, Jan. 2-25 at Iliff, 2201 S. University Blvd., Denver and Feb. 1-29 at Wells Fargo Bank, 1740 Broadway, Denver.

The exhibit, part of a national celebration of the 50th anniversary of the landmark integration of Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, leads participants on an interactive journey through the early years of America’s civil rights movement.

“The Heroes and Sheroes exhibit captures the scope of the impact of the Little Rock Nine on the civil rights movement in three stages: The Need for Change, The Courage to Stand, and The Cost & the Prize, ” said Dr. David Trickett, president, The Iliff School of Theology. “Through photos, vintage memorabilia, and other items, the exhibit tells the story of the Nine in a way that appeals to every generation.”

The exhibit kick-offs a series of Iliff-sponsored events in Denver honoring the Nine and encouraging continued commitment to inclusiveness by all, including the “Little Rock Nine: A Celebration of Courage” luncheon, Feb. 26 at the Adam’s Mark Hotel, 1550 Court Place, Denver (where all nine are expected to gather).

“I would like to see us continue to move toward a diverse environment because that’s what this world is made of.” said Carlotta Walls LaNier, one of the Little Rock Nine, in a recent interview. “Today, Iliff does exactly that, it brings together the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement and its impact on our society.”
During January, the exhibit will be open at Iliff daily, Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m., and on Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. In February, the exhibit will be open to the public at Wells Fargo, Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Detailed information about events honoring the Nine is available by contacting Greta Gloven, 303-765-3109 or ggloven@iliff.edu.
