To better serve the denominations of the Pacific Northwest, Iliff will become a member of the Northwest Consortium, a group of theological schools which use the Northwest House of Theological Studies (NHTS) in Salem, OR as an extension program.
As part of this partnership, Iliff will be working with other NHTS partners, including the American Baptist Seminary of the West, Church Divinity School of the Pacific, Pacific Lutheran Theological School, and the Pacific School of Religion.
NHTS is a center that responds to the needs of “mainline” churches in the Pacific Northwest and helps to prepare persons for lay or ordained ministry in the region who are not immediately able to attend theological school in another region or who wish to explore theological education. NHTS offices are adjacent to Willamette University in Salem and most classes are held on their campus. Willamette University and nearby Mount Angel Library provide library resources.
Through the NHTS program, students are able to complete up to 49 percent of the courses for the master of divinity or other theological masters degrees through the extension program.
“Iliff is delighted to become the United Methodist related school partnering with the NHTS,” said Jeffrey Mahan, vice president and dean of academic affairs, and professor of ministry, media, and culture. “Iliff will become the school from which most United Methodist students at NHTS will graduate. In doing so, we will be supporting our mission to serve the religious communities in the west and particularly the Western Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church.”
