Special Collections at the Ira J. Taylor Library

The Library keeps books that are considered rare and valuable in Special Collections. Some of the materials are early edictions of theological works; some are limited editions; and some possess unique or precious bindings. Taylor Library's Special Collections contains more than 2,500 books published before 1800. The collection is especially strong in the history of Methodism, Anglican church history, and women and Christianity.
The collection also includes some of the hymnals donated to the Library by John R. Van Pelt, a set of the doctoral dissertations and masters theses completed at Iliff, and faculty and alumni/ae publications. These books are non-circulating but are available for scholarly study in the Frank and Jennie Court Reading Room.
