God Talk X - January 17 @ St. Andrews

January 04, 2017

God Talk X marks a decade of significant theological conversations at St. Andrew UMC with scholars from Iliff School of Theology, and community leaders from around Denver. Please join us for an evening of conversation as we hear a panel discussion on race and social justice in America.

Panelists include:
Dr. Thomas Wolfe, President of Iliff School of Theology, and Bishop Henry White Warren Professor of Leadership and Ministry Praxis
• Rev. Amanda Henderson, Executive Director of The Interfaith Alliance of Colorado, and Ordained Disciples of Christ Minister
Dr. Caren Ware Joseph, Adjunct Faculty Member and Director of Alumni Relations and Legacy Giving for Iliff School of Theology

The panel discussion will begin at 7pm in the Sanctuary and is free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be taken. Refreshments will be served immediately following in the Atrium.

In the weeks following, there will be a 2-week class, led by Rev. Annie Arnoldy, called Meaningful Conversations on Race. These classes will be on January 31st and February 7th, 7-8:30pm, in the library. These classes will utilize a DVD series created by GCORR (General Commission on Race and Religion) and will engage our own practices of Christianity in seeking to create a more just society.

If you would like to read some excellent books on the topic of racial justice, we have 2 available in the Pathways Alcove: Under Our Skin by Benjamin Watson and Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates. These will be used in the follow-up classes for discussion purposes, but are not required for the classes.
