SUMMARY:The Romance of Colorado Statehood: Conversations on the Indian Trauma and Tragedy of Colorado
DESCRIPTION:SAVE THE DATE: The Romance of Colorado Statehood: Conversations on the Indian Trauma and Tragedy of Colorado 150  \nApril 17-18\, 2026 | Free for Attendees \nIliff School of Theology | Shattuck Hall | In Person Only \nTwo days of conversations and consultations.  \nREGISTER NOW\nSponsored by: Iliff (sponsoring host)\, America 250 Colorado 150 Commission\, Chinook Fund \nAugust 1\, 2026\, marks the 150th anniversary of Colorado’s statehood. This anniversary offers us a chance to reflect upon the land\, the territory\, and the creation of the State of Colorado\, reminding us of the varied experiences of all who today call Colorado home.  \nIn what ways have we romanticized Colorado’s statehood? The impact of statehood on Indigenous communities is far from glorious. This land was cleared to become a “safe” home for settlers amidst gold rush and the Civil War. With fears of Confederate expansion and Union protection\, Indian lives became meaningless. As a part of Iliff’s Indigenous commitments\, we are hosting “The Romance of Colorado Statehood: The Indian Trauma and Tragedy of Colorado 150” on April 17-18\, 2026\, in Shattuck Hall. \nThis free event will feature a panel of Indigenous voices\, including community organizers\, lawyers\, and educators. We will engage in some social activism training and organizing during both days. Conversations will take place around food\, with meals being provided for attendees.  \nSpeakers – The Colorado Romance and American Indian Tragedy: Colorado 150/250\n\nRick Williams (Cheyenne/Lakota)\, People of the Sacred Land\, President; retired Exec. Dir. of American Indian College Fund.\nNita Gonzales (Chicana)\, Former Head of Escuela Tlatelolco\, community activist\, and daughter of the Chicano Movement\, continuing the legacy of the Crusade for Justice while guiding environmental and historical justice through the River Sisters Congreso. \n\nSky Roosevelt Morris (Apache/Shawnee)\, Colorado AIM\, Four Winds American Indian Council\n\n\nTink tinker (wazhazhe)\, facilitator\n\n\nREGISTER NOW\nSponsors: \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n America 250 – Colorado 150 Commission Logo

SUMMARY:March Renewal Session
DESCRIPTION:March Renewal Session\nClergy Activists: A Panel Discussion\nWednesday\, March 25 from noon to 1:30 pm MT\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhen we consider the role of a faith leader\, many of us may imagine someone standing in front of a congregation or teaching from an ancient text. But what does it look like to minister out in the community? How are faith leaders standing up\, speaking out\, and providing support outside the pulpit? \nFor our March Renewal session\, we will be joined by a panel of three Iliff alumni/ae who are doing the work of leading inside and outside traditional religious spaces to live out their call when they aren’t standing in the pulpit. This session will provide an opportunity to hear about the work a minister can do outside of their congregation to give our community a better understanding of how activism and action outside the church walls are part of a pastor’s role\, and an idea of how we can support religious leaders in their work in organizing\, mutual aid and social change.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister for March Renewal Here

SUMMARY:Interfaith Alliance of Colorado 2025 Force for Good Reception & Awards!
DESCRIPTION:Democracy\, Theocracy\, and Autocracy\n\nThursday\, November 13\, 6:00pm – 8:00pm\nIliff School of Theology\, Shattuck Hall\nREGISTER NOW\nThe Interfaith Alliance of Colorado invites you to join us for our 2025 Force for Good Reception & Awards! \nHOSTED BY COMEDIAN COREY MANNING!\nThis event will celebrate the faith communities\, elected officials\, community leaders\, and advocates who go above and beyond to make Colorado a place where all feel at home. It will also serve as the backdrop for a critical discussion on faith and the state of our democracy. \n\n\n\n\nKeynote \nWe are thrilled to welcome Rev. Dr. Lee Butler\, President of the Iliff School of Theology\, as our keynote speaker! \nA trailblazer in bringing intercultural community building and racial justice to many of the educational institutions he has served\, the Rev. Dr. Lee H. Butler Jr. is currently the President and CEO of the Iliff School of Theology in Denver\, CO. He is an active publishing scholar\, most recently serving as the co-editor of The Edward Wimberly Reader: A Black Pastoral Theology (Baylor University Press\, 2020). \nWe are thrilled to welcome Rev. Dr. Butler as our Keynote speaker to share his perspective on “Faith and the American-cracy.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFaith and the American -cracy: A Reflection on American Democracy\, Theocracy\, and Autocracy \nThe United States of America has long been described as being founded on the principle of religious freedom. The colonials and revolutionaries of American history lived according to the idea that they were escaping the tyranny of an unjust ruler and communities of persecution. Religion has still influenced how we understand humanity\, dominance\, and freedom in terms of the language of life\, liberty\, and property. This evolved into the declaration that we are “One nation\, under God\, indivisible\, with liberty and justice for all” who met the qualifications for citizenship. This keynote address will reflect on our history as a nation and how influences of theocracy\, autocracy\, and democracy have shaped the United States as we know it today. \n\n\n\n\nWith faith and conscience as our compass\, we will celebrate the incredible work happening in our state to protect democracy\, true religioius freedom\, and promote our shared values. \nJoin us for this important celebration and discussion. Get your tickets today! \nDress for a Cocktail Reception! \nREGISTER NOW

SUMMARY:A Day at Iliff - A Pre-Conference Retreat for Your Spirit
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, June 10\, 2025\n1:30 PM – Evening Dinner Keynote\nIliff School of Theology\, Denver\, CO\nJoin Iliff and the Mountain Sky Conference of The UMC for an afternoon of transformation\, learning\, connection\, and inspiration at “Day at Iliff\,” a special pre-conference gathering hosted by the Compelling Preaching Initiative in partnership with Iliff School of Theology\, ahead of the 2025 Mountain Sky Annual Conference. In this dynamic gathering\, preaching and pastoral leaders will explore the intersections of creativity\, care\, and communication through three rich workshop experiences—all designed to inspire more compelling and life-giving proclamation. \nWORKSHOP SESSIONS\n1:30 PM – “Fostering Creativity in Preaching”\nRev. Dr. Lee Butler\nThis session will discuss creativity as a playful approach to biblical interpretation.  Focusing on biblical narratives as the foundation for considering human transformation\, the sermonic communications of God’s love will be grounded in psychological theories to help engage the text as a living Divine and human document. \n3:15 p.m. – “Resilient Leadership – Lessons from Grief\, Crisis\, and Connection” \nMeredith Parfet\, MA Pastoral and Spiritual Care\, MBA\nThis workshop challenges ministers and leaders to rethink how we approach crisis—not as a disruption to manage\, but as a transformative opportunity.  We will explore how grief manifests in many forms and offers practical frameworks for holding necessary but often stigmatized conversations\, particularly around death and loss. Grounded in real self care practices from the Iliff Death Care Collective\, this session empowers faith leaders to guide their communities with greater compassion and clarity\, even in difficult times. \n5:00 PM – “Storytelling in New Social Spaces” (Keynote & Dinner)\nRev. Dr. Amanda Henderson\nWe all know that stories are the key to reaching people and catalyzing personal and social transformation. But how do we reach people in a media context of soundbites and doom scrolling? In this interactive\, multi-media session\, we will explore the power of storytelling utilizing multiple media platforms and take away tips for both tech-savvy and tech-wary storytellers. \nDinner will be provided during this final session—come hungry for both food and insight! \nClick here to register.

Jones to preserve and revitalize the music and teachings of the sacred folk songs called “spirituals\,” created and first sung by African Americans in slavery. Today\, the city attracts thousands of new residents each year\, including the LGBTQ people from the rural West and digital nomads from around the nations seeking a welcoming community where they can thrive. In LGBTQ Denver Nash showcases how the city evolved from its pre-1970s history of rebuking gay people to a magnet for LGBTQ residents and the capital of the first state to elect and reelect the nation’s first openly gay governor. \nAbout Phil Nash \nA Michigan native\, Phil Nash made Denver his home in 1976 and launched a career in LGBTQ activism\, journalism\, and organizational leadership. He helped found\, and was the first staff member of the Gay Community Center of Colorado (today known as The Center on Colfax). He later became editor of Out Front\, Colorado’s leading LGBTQ publication in the early 1980s. He also wrote for The Advocate\, Westword\, and other local and national news outlets. He helped found and served as first board chair of the Colorado AIDS Project. As an out gay professional\, Nash later worked in a series of senior communications roles in civic and philanthropic organizations\, including as an advisor to Denver Mayor Federico Peña. In LGBTQ Denver\, Nash documents more than five decades of Denver’s LGBTQ history\, much of which he witnessed firsthand\, reported\, and photographed. “I wrote LGBTQ Denver as yet another way to help build a stronger community\,” says Nash\, “especially at a time when darker forces in our society want to turn back the clock and erase the evidence of our existence.”

SUMMARY:Academy of Religious Leadership Annual Conference
DESCRIPTION:Join the Academy of Religious Leadership as we explore the timely topic of Leadership as Justice.\n \n \n \n \n \n Dates: April 24-26\, 2025\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nThe 2025 ARL Annual Meeting is a hybrid event with both in-person and online options. See below for registration details. The theme of our 2025 annual meeting will be “Leadership as Justice.”  \nExploring leadership as justice invites a reconsideration of the what\, who\, why\, when\, where\, and how of justice for leaders and religious communities alike. What does justice look\, sound\, smell\, taste\, and feel like for leaders and communities? What new forms and structures might/does just leadership take within communities? Who determines what justice is or should be\, and for whom? Why is—or is not—justice a core concern for some leaders and not others\, and thus some communities and not others?  \nThe ARL Annual Meeting invites scholars and practitioners into thoughtful conversation about the (r)evolutionary vocation of leadership. Our methods: discussing provocative\, original papers/presentations\, networking\, and imagining an emerging future in the theological education\, formation\, and ongoing development of religious leaders in a fast-paced\, challenging world. \nIt will be held in Denver\, CO\, April 24-26\, 2025. The conference begins Thursday evening and ends Saturday at Noon. Schedule forthcoming. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation: Iliff School of Theology\, 2323 E.
