SUMMARY:Renewal // Shaping the Final Chapter - Unfinished Business
DESCRIPTION:We all hope to be remembered well and to reach the end of our lives with a sense that we have done all we wished to do. But what about the things left incomplete? How can we prepare ourselves and our loved ones for the unfinished pieces left when we are gone? Iliff alum Rev. Dr. Lorraine Leist will share findings from her doctoral research regarding how people considering their mortality cope with and make meaning out of unfinished life tasks when preparing for a good death. She will lead a brief exercise enabling attendees to reflect on limitations to completing life and facilitate discussion about addressing unfinished business.  She will also explore the concept of a ‘good death’ and encourage participants to consider diverse perspectives about the end of life. \nPresenter: Dr. Lorraine Leist\nRev. Dr. Lorraine Leist\, DMin\, MDiv\, BCC-PCHAC\, is currently working as the Associate Pastor for Congregational Care and Older Adults at Montview Presbyterian Church in Denver\, CO.  Prior to this\, Lorraine worked as an advanced board-certified palliative care chaplain in Colorado and Washington.  Lorraine received a B.A. from Wellesley College and a Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from the Iliff School of Theology.  Lorraine is passionate about helping people embrace their final season of life with dignity and grace. \nRegistration Fee:\n$5 | Free for all students and Iliff faculty and staff\nAn additional donation is welcome. \nRegister HERE. \nIf the registration fee is a barrier to your attendance at the event\, please reach out to alumni@iliff.edu.

SUMMARY:Gathering Days // Big Mama Speaks
DESCRIPTION:A Tulsa Race Riot Survivor’s Story\nMark your calendars! Big Mama Speaks\, a one-woman play that recounts the history of “Black Wall Street” in Tulsa\, OK\, and explores the work of reconciliation is coming to Iliff during Gathering Days Week. As we celebrate African American History Month\, we will reflect on the impact of the worst race riot in American history\, which destroyed the beloved Greenwood District\, renowned nationally in the early twentieth century for its preeminent Black entrepreneurs. Against all odds\, Tulsa’s African-American community overcame\, and Big Mama Speaks gives voice to the triumph of the human spirit. The free\, public performance features accomplished actress\, Vanessa Adams-Harris\, a Muskogee-Creek American Indian with African-American/European ancestry and will be followed by a post-performance conversation between Vanessa and the gathered guests. \nIliff School of Theology\nShattuck Hall
