Gathering Days are when Journey students travel to Denver to attend their courses. It is a special time for the Iliff community to be together for academics and fellowship for meals, classes, social events, guest speakers, prayer and worship. By gathering on the beautiful Iliff campus, there are distinctive opportunities for meaningful, engaging, and transforming conversations. Here are a number of special events hosted by the Dean’s office for the spring Gathering Days.
- Dean Lee will host lunch and a conversation session on Courageous Conversation: The UMC and Beyond
- After the conversation, we’ll enjoy dessert and bid farewell to Rev. Dr. Jason Whitehead, who is moving on from his position in the OPF.
- Hijacking Islam: Living in a Post 9/11 World – Since 9/11 over two million Muslims have died in conflicts that in one way or another were related to the events in September 2011. Muslims have been the greatest victims of terror, with minority communities in the Middle East a distant second. In 1947, the historian, Prof. Arnold Toynbee, foretold of a militant version of Islam coupled with a nihilistic zealotry arising in the not too distant future. What did he know that we didn’t, and how much of Islam has actually informed these zealots? Moreover, what can we do in the U.S. to mitigate the rise of anti-Muslim sentiment that demonizes the religion of a fifth of the world’s population heralding a possible race war that Toynbee also predicted was likely.
- A time to recognize and honor the work and service of Iliff students, staff, and faculty. Rev. Dr. Julie Todd will give the address. Lunch is provided.
Wednesday, April 24, 10 am to 5 pm – Open House
The Admissions team is also having an Open House to share with prospective students the different degree programs at Iliff.
