ReSource Workshop:
Essentials of Financial Management
With Rev. Sherry Ferriman (MDiv, MBA)
 Wednesday & Thursday, May 9-10, 2018
8:30am – 5:00pm

Registration for this event is now closed.

Course Content

This two-day workshop, based on Iliff’s popular Financial Management course, is designed for leaders (and leaders-to-be) who are involved in the involved in budget planning, financial reporting, and/or the overall leadership of the financial aspects of local churches, non-profits, or other ministry or service settings.

The love of money may be the root of all evil, but the knowledge and responsible use of money is imperative for non-profit organizations and churches. The words “Financial Management” may be intimidating to many; however, the reality is non-profit and church leaders have the responsibility to measure the success of their organization. Measuring the success of a non-profit organization or a church can be challenging because the success is not and should not be based on the bottom line or profit margin. A non-profit and church success is based on their mission and their ability to achieve, maintain and sustain their mission. Learning to understand financial documents, terms, and reports is like learning a foreign language that has different dialects depending on the organization or information you are reading. The Financial Management workshop will help you begin to understand the basics of finance, understand how to evaluate a non-profit or church, and make leadership decisions based on the financial picture.

Topics include:

  • Budget preparation;
  • Understanding financial reports;
  • Decision-making and forecasting;
  • Developing and understanding metrics and measures;
  • Interfacing with committees, teams, and organizational staff responsible for finances.
