Mary E. Reyland, PhD

Bio

Dr. Mary Reyland is a tenured Professor at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Prior to moving to Colorado in 1994, she completed her PhD in experimental pathology at the Medical College of Virginia and postdoctoral training at the University of Washington and Stony Brook University, New York. As a faculty member, she directs a research laboratory supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and has published over 80 scientific papers.

Dr. Reyland has a longstanding commitment to training the next generation as evidenced by her many contributions to higher education at the university and national level. She has trained over 40 graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, undergraduate and high school students and has served in multiple leadership positions in the UC Anschutz Graduate School, including Director for the Cancer Biology Graduate Training Program (2010–2021). Upon stepping down from this position, the Mary E. Reyland Award for Outstanding Mentorship and Service was established in her honor. Other contributions to education and training include development and leadership of NIH-supported training programs for undergraduates, predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees. At the national level, she has served as President of the Cancer Biology Training Consortium where she contributed to establishing national guidelines for predoctoral and postdoctoral training.

In addition, she has served on numerous external review panels for graduate programs and multiple NIH review panels. Dr. Reyland is highly committed to enhancing the diversity of the biomedical workforce and has helped to develop diversity initiatives through the Cancer Biology Training Consortium and at the university level.
