Rachel passed away on May 25, 2026 in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, surrounded by her family and her beloved Candomblé community, Terreiro do Cobre.
Rachel was the cherished daughter of the late civil rights icons, authors, and longtime Denver residents, Dr. Vincent Harding and Rosemarie Freeney-Harding. She was a devoted sister, cousin, mentor, and trusted friend, as well as a brilliant historian, celebrated poet, and dedicated educator. She passed away peacefully in a region central to her life’s work, leaving behind a profound legacy of love, faith, and transformative scholarship.
