Grief lives in the body as much as it does in the heart and mind. Beyond Words: A Somatic Approach to Growing with Our Grief explores how we can move through loss by engaging the body, the nervous system, and the innate wisdom within us. This 60-minute session introduces participants to the science and practice of somatic healing, with accessible tools that support integration, resilience, and meaning-making. For this Renewal session, Iliff is partnering with the LIGHT Movement (Love In Grief, Held Together), a somatic-based organization dedicated to supporting individuals and communities through grief, loss, and healing. Their mission is to provide accessible, evidence-informed practices that honor the body’s innate wisdom, with a vision of creating peaceful communities where no one grieves alone. LIGHT believes healing happens in connection. Learn more at lightmovement.org.
Presenter: Amy Pickett-Williams, LCSW, RYT
Amy is a psychotherapist, yoga teacher, and the founder of LIGHT Movement (Love In Grief, Held Together), an organization dedicated to bringing somatic tools for grief and loss to individuals and communities worldwide. For over 25 years, Amy has supported families navigating the death of a child and other profound losses, including infertility, cancer, illness, injury, and identity shifts. Her work bridges evidence-informed psychotherapy and embodied practices, integrating polyvagal theory, yoga, breath, sound, and ritual. Amy presents nationally at conferences and trainings, including the American Psychological Association (APA), the National Alliance for Children’s Grief (NACG), the National Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors), and NOVA (National Organization for Victim Assistance). She, along with other LIGHT volunteers have also developed innovative trainings, retreats, and trauma and grief-informed yoga teacher programs. Amy believes healing happens in connection and that through somatic practices, people can move beyond words, working with grief in ways that foster integration, resilience, and growth.
